ProStaff is currently recruiting for an experienced Machine Setup Operator to join our clients’ manufacturing team.
This role is responsible for setting up, programming, troubleshooting, and optimizing robotic and CNC-controlled equipment to support efficient production. The successful candidate will work closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Plant Management to maintain equipment performance, minimize downtime, and ensure production, quality, and safety standards are met.
About the Role
As a Machine Setup Operator, you will play an important technical role within the manufacturing operation. You will be responsible for machine setup and programming, equipment troubleshooting, process improvements, and providing technical support to production employees.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with manufacturing experience and a strong technical background who is comfortable working with robotic and CNC equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, program, and optimize robotic and CNC-controlled equipment
- Coordinate machine programming and setup requirements to support production
- Assist with the installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment
- Troubleshoot machine, equipment, programming, and process issues
- Identify root causes of equipment and production problems and implement solutions
- Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to improve productivity and quality
- Provide technical support at various facilities and travel to job sites when required
- Coordinate first-off inspections with Quality Assurance for new parts
- Ensure materials are properly identified and tagged according to company procedures
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce downtime
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members
- Assist Engineering and Plant Management with technical projects and equipment-related estimates
- Help ensure production schedules and operational requirements are achieved
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Follow all company safety policies and Occupational Health and Safety requirements
- Report workplace incidents, unsafe conditions, or equipment concerns to the appropriate supervisor
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications/Education
- Grade 12 education or equivalent required
- Certificate or diploma in a relevant technical field is an asset
Experience
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with machinery setup
- Experience working with Fanuc or similar robotic systems
- Basic PLC knowledge is an asset
- Experience with CNC-controlled equipment is an asset
Technical Skills
- Strong technical and mechanical understanding
- Ability to understand the operation and function of manufacturing and fabricating equipment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to understand and maintain quality, productivity, and safety standards
- Familiarity with robotic programming and machine setup
- Basic knowledge of PLC and HMI programming is an asset
- Familiarity with Epicor computer systems is an asset
- Knowledge of TS16949/IATF 16949, quality audits, environmental management systems, and OSHA requirements is an asset
Additional Requirements

- Fluent in English, both verbal and written

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to provide technical support across different facilities when required
