Our client is seeking Temporary Research Assistants to join their team in Georgetown, ON. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in plant breeding and seed production, working to develop high-yielding, disease-resistant canola varieties.
You will work as part of a collaborative research team in both field and greenhouse environments. This position offers valuable training in controlled field projects and greenhouse activities, with work spanning from planting to harvesting and seed processing.
- Greenhouse planting and plant care (staking, tying, tidying leaves)
- Collecting leaf tissue samples in greenhouse and/or field
- Crossing – CMS and emasculating
- Harvesting plants (greenhouse and/or field)
- Threshing (extracting seeds from pods)
- Grain cleaning
- Labelling, weighing, and organizing seed packages (inventory)
- Filling and possibly treating seed packages
- Assisting with field preparation, seeding, and plot maintenance
- Applying seed treatments as needed
- Assisting with note collection and data recording
- Limited driving of a company vehicle
- Building cages and other field preparations
- Reliable transportation (no public transit available)
- Willingness to work in warm temperatures (30–35°C)
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work
- Fast learner with a high aptitude for precision and accuracy
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Comfortable performing repetitive tasks with accuracy
- Safety-oriented mindset
- Basic computer and navigation skills
- Willingness to work overtime when needed
- Comfortable using portable washrooms in the field
Pay Rate: $21.00/hour
Start Date: September 2, 2025
Duration: 4–8 months
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm
Interviews: Starting week of August 18, 2025
Driving Required: Occasionally – MVR check required
Medical Testing Required: N95 PFT and Fit Test, Medical Clearance, Audiometric Testing
