A leading agricultural research facility in Caledon, Ontario is seeking a Canola Doubled Haploid (DH) Production Lab Technician to join its dynamic and motivated team. This position focuses on the doubled haploid production of canola—a key process in improving the quality of this major Canadian oilseed crop.
This is a full-time, Monday to Friday position with steady daytime hours, perfect for current university students or recent graduates in plant or biological sciences looking to gain valuable, hands-on laboratory experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Grow DH donor plants in growth rooms and collect tissue samples
- Transfer and culture embryos for shoot regeneration
- Subculture shoots to promote plantlet development and transplant to soil
- Collect tissue samples for ploidy analysis and molecular characterization
- Record and maintain accurate research and production data
- Perform general laboratory support tasks such as cleaning, autoclaving, packaging, and storage of materials
Required Education & Experience:
- Current university student or recent graduate in one of the following fields:
- Plant Cell Biology
- Molecular Biology and Genetics
- Biochemistry
- Biological Engineering
- Horticulture or other Agriculture-related programs
Additional Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision after training
- Strong attention to detail and good aseptic technique required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is an asset
- Strong verbal communication skills preferred
- Must have access to reliable transportation — no public transit available to this location
