We are looking for a candidate who is enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and has a solid foundation in plant biology and laboratory techniques. The ideal individual is eager to contribute to the Canola Doubled Haploid Production team by supporting canola improvement through hands-on lab work, tissue culture, and accurate data recording in a collaborative and research-driven environment.

Job Description:
We are looking for a candidate who is enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and has a strong foundation in plant biology and laboratory techniques. The ideal individual is eager to contribute to the Canola Doubled Haploid Production team by supporting canola improvement through hands-on lab work, tissue culture, and accurate data recording in a collaborative and research-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grow donor plants in growth rooms and collect tissue samples.
  • Transfer and culture embryos for shoot regeneration.
  • Subculture shoots to regenerate plantlets and transfer them to soil.
  • Sample plant tissue for ploidy analysis.
  • Collect plantlet tissue for molecular characterization.
  • Accurately record research and production data.
  • Support general lab maintenance tasks, including cleaning, autoclaving, packaging, and organizing materials.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently after initial training, within a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong aseptic technique and high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Strong verbal communication skills (preferred).
  • Background in plant biology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field is an asset.

Transportation Requirements:
Applicants must have access to a personal vehicle, as there is no public transit to the facility. The site is approximately:

  • 20 minutes from Brampton
  • 25 minutes from Mississauga
  • 45 minutes from Guelph or Toronto

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.50 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
